HESPERIA, California — November 4, 2026. A local recreation-district board election remains close: Jose Gonzalez leads Don Bartz by 37 votes for Division 3 of the Hesperia Recreation and Park District in the final unofficial election-night tally.
Division 3: 1,182 to 1,145
Gonzalez has 1,182 votes (50.51%) and Bartz has 1,145 (48.93%). All 13 division precincts have submitted their night-of-election results, but additional properly submitted ballots may affect the result. No winner should be certified from this snapshot.
Other park-district divisions
Division 1 is a separate contest: Shawna R. Lupton Irish has 1,387, Sherri Kastilahn 626, and Rhonda June Young 442. In Division 5, James Roberts III has 1,234, Gary “Griz” Drylie 1,073, and James Michael Rodrigues 697. Division 3’s electorate should not be confused with those divisions.
Why this board matters
The park district has responsibilities for recreation facilities and programming within its service territory. Its directors are not the Hesperia City Council or Unified School District trustees, whose races are covered in separate local stories.
Source and status: San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters, Summary Report #5, Final Unofficial Election Night Results, November 4, 2026. Although all precincts have reported election-night returns, valid mail, provisional and other ballots may still be processed. These are not certified results.
